'He was released from prison' is a passive sentence. He was released from prison 是个被动句。
In the sentence "He was hit by the ball", "was hit" is in the passive voice. He was hit by the ball这句话中was hit是被动式。

When changed into the passive, "The dog chased the cat" becomes "The cat was chased by the dog". The dog chased the cat 变成被动句后,为 The cat was chased by the dog.
